Madeleine Brand is the host of KPCC's The Madeleine Brand Show.

Brand started her career in radio in 1986 at KALX in Berkeley and eventually joined NPR, last hosting the dearly departed Day to Day with co-host Alex Chadwick. She has covered national and international news, along with investigative and arts pieces.

Brand is a graduate of UC Berkeley and Columbia, where she also taught journalism.

LAUSD to start classes earlier next year

The Los Angeles School Board recently announced that the school year will begin three weeks earlier, in mid-August. This modification to the schedule will take effect starting in 2012.
