Maura Walz is KPCC's Education Editor.

Prior to coming at KPCC, Maura worked as deputy managing editor of Chalkbeat, a nonprofit news organization covering education in four states.

Maura began covering New York City's public schools in 2008 and has been on the education beat ever since. She was an early staff member of GothamSchools, the education reporting startup that evolved into Chalkbeat. She then covered Georgia's schools for Georgia Public Broadcasting's Southern Education Desk for two years.

Her reporting has also appeared on NBC News, WNYC, FastCompany and the Carnegie Knight initiative News21.

Maura is a graduate of the University of Chicago and the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism.

In her free time, she reads novels and follows pop culture.
