89.3 KPCC Wins Two Golden Mike Awards
Monday, January 26, 2009 (Los Angeles) - Southern California Public Radio (SCPR) announced that 89.3 FM KPCC has won two Golden Mike Awards from the Radio and Television News Association (RTNA) of Southern California. The awards were presented at the 59th Golden Mike Awards at the Universal City Hilton on Saturday, January 24th.
The following are KPCC's Golden Mike Award winners:
- Best Individual Writing: Susan Valot, for her report titled, "Park Rebounds", on the recovery of Orange County's Limestone Canyon and Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park from the October 2007 Santiago Fire.
- Best Public Affairs Program: Off-Ramp, for its September 27th edition, which featured a tribute to Tom Bradley, Los Angeles' first black mayor, ten years after his death. Off-Ramp is produced by Host John Rabe and Queena Kim. The winning program featured stories by Kitty Felde, Rico Gagliano, Adolfo Guzman-Lopez and Frank Stoltze, as well as an essay by Marc Haefele.
KPCC has won more than 200 regional and national awards for journalistic excellence since it went to its news/talk format in 2000.
