SklarTalk! returns to KPCC

Friday, December 9, 2010 @ 8:00pm and Sunday, December 11, 2010 @ 4:00pm

Our resident sports brothers, comedians Randy and Jason Sklar, return with another hour of “sports for people who don’t really like sports.”

From athletes getting in trouble with Twitter, to the sub-text behind the choice of Madonna as this year’s Superbowl half-time entertainer, the Sklars make sports accessible, and and focus on the human side of athletic activity. And they poke a lot of fun at almost everyone.

The show features interviews with:
Joshua Malina, who starred in Sports Night, and played Will Bailey on the West Wing, who is also a very accomplished poker player. He confesses that the roots of his acumen come from his father, who used to play a version of Go Fish in which cheating was allowed.

Mike Pesca, NPR’s sports correspondent. Mike makes fun of some of the more silly bowl games that end the college football season. His favorite, a bowl sponsored by a bowl – The Beef O’Brady’s Bowl, which this year features the Marshall Thundering Herd vs Florida International University, which Mike notes is not affiliated with the International House of Pancakes.

Jimmy King, former Michigan basketball star. He went on to play in the NBA. King tells the Sklars about his life after hanging up his high-tops. He’s doing well, running his own business, a solar energy company, but he says many athletes are sorely unprepared for life after their playing days are over.

Trina Turk, the famed Southern California fashion designer. A fashion designer on a sports show? Why not? Randy and Jason help Trina understand some rather esoteric concepts involving football, and she gives them some style tips.

Plus, a special appearance by Madeleine Brand, who asks a few sports questions that a lot of us have, but were too embarrassed to ask.

So whether you’d constantly glued to ESPN, or you don’t even know what those initials stand for, we think you’ll find SklarTalk fun, funny, and more informative than you’d imagine.
