SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA PUBLIC RADIO CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF AIRTALK, EMBARKS ON REGIONAL TOUR WITH HOST LARRY MANTLE

Live events announced throughout the Southland, including venues in South Los Angeles, Hollywood, Pasadena, and Rancho Mirage

PASADENA – January 12, 2015 –  Southern California Public Radio (SCPR) is commemorating its award winning AirTalk and its 30 years as the region’s longest running daily talk program by embarking on a regional tour of live event tapings around Southern California.  Hosted by Larry Mantle weekdays from 11 am to 1 pm, the program offers lively and in-depth discussions of city news, politics, science, the arts, entertainment, and more.

"Larry Mantle has been having the most interesting conversation with the entire population of metropolitan Los Angeles for 30 years running," said Bill Davis, president of SCPR. "Most of the time, this conversation takes place over the phone and on the radio, with Larry sitting in a small, dimly lit studio. After 30 years, we thought it would be fun to let Larry and Los Angeles have a face-to-face conversation."

The first of these live event tapings will take place in South Los Angeles on January 21 at the LA84 Foundation, followed by one at The Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood on February 8.  Rancho Mirage will also be a stop on this tour, with an event scheduled March 2 at Sunnylands Center & Gardens, and another scheduled at SCPR’s Crawford Family Forum on April.  Additional information about the tour is available at: www.scpr.org/at30

During his 30 years hosting AirTalk, Mantle has spoken with thousands of prominent guests on an extraordinary array of local, national, and international topics. AirTalk's guest list has included Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Tom Hanks, Ben Affleck, Bob Woodward, Jerry Brown, John McCain, Joe Biden, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Martin Scorcese, James Cameron, Francis Ford Coppola, Robert Altman, Tim Burton, Peter Jackson, and Oliver Stone to name a few.

Mantle and the AirTalk team have received numerous journalistic awards, including 14 Golden Mikes from the Radio & TV News Association of Southern California, the Society of Professional Journalists’ Radio Journalist of the Year, the Associated Press’ Mark Twain award for Radio Journalism, the Los Angeles Press Club Radio Journalist of the Year, Public Radio News Directors’ Best Interview award, New Times LA Best Talk Show Host, four National Entertainment Journalism awards and several L.A. Press Club and Associated Press awards.
