Kitty Felde is Radio Journalist of the Year for Second Year in a Row

PASADENA June 23 - KPCC 89.3 FM won 12 awards from the Los Angeles Press Club Saturday night, more than any other southern California radio station. Talk of the City Host Kitty Felde was honored as Radio Journalist of the Year for the second year in a row, while AirTalk Host Larry Mantle won second Place in that category.
"I'm overwhelmed to win this award again," said an exultant Felde. "But I have to give most of the credit to my wonderful producers, Christal Smith, Aimee Machado and Julia Posey. They're the reason I'm being honored by the Press Club."
KPCC reporters swept the Best Feature category; Debra Baer won First Place for a report on teen alcoholism, Adolfo Guzman Lopez took Second Place for a story on Graffiti, and Frank Stoltze captured an Honorable Mention for a feature on local Muslims trying to get politically organized.
Ilsa Setziol won First Place for Best Use of Sound, for her report on spotted owls. Setziol was also a finalist for Radio Journalist of the Year. Steve Julian won an Honorable Mention for Best Sports News, for his story on the Farsi broadcasts of the Lakers games.
In the investigative reporting category, AirTalk took Second Place for an in-depth report on special education. Talk of the City won an Honorable Mention for its series on LA's foster care system.
In the Talk/Public Affairs/Documentary category, Talk of the City won Second Place for its special town hall broadcast in South LA on gang violence. A KPCC documentary produced by Aimee Machado, "Portrait of Hedab," won an Honorable Mention.
KPCC has won more than 60 awards since it went to an all-news/talk format three years ago. "We're humbled to win so many awards from our peers," said News Director Paul Glickman. "We're trying to serve the communities of southern California, and being honored like this is a sign that we're on the right track."
KPCC is the flagship station of Southern California Public Radio. It airs all of the signature public radio news and talk programs, along with locally produced news and talk, including AirTalk with Larry Mantle weekdays from 9-11 am, and Talk of the City with Kitty Felde weekdays from 1-2:30 pm.
