89.3 FM KPCC Continues its Spring Fund Drive
KPCC Press Release
Los Angeles, March 31-- Award-winning NPR Morning Edition Host Bob Edwards today urged public radio listeners to continue to support their local NPR radio stations. KPCC 89.3 FM broadcast the interview as part of its spring fund drive, which continues through Friday, April 2
When told that some listeners had told their local stations that they were withholding their pledges to protest his role change from host to Senior Correspondent, Edwards responded, “That is the wrong way to go.” He reminded listeners that NPR news and its affiliate stations are “still the best news source in radio and one of the best in all of journalism.”
Edwards said he has helped support and build NPR “over the last 30 years and (listener’s withholding funds) is very disturbing to me.” Talking of local station fundraising, he urged listeners to give, saying “stations are deserving of support” and exhorting them to “continue to be generous." The entire interview can be heard on the NPR and KPCC web sites.
Anyone wishing to support KPCC should visit www.kpcc.org to pledge their support or call 1-866-888-5722.
Edwards will tour the country promoting his book, Edward R. Murrow and the Birth of Broadcast Journalism, later in the spring. Look for details about his visit to Los Angeles at www.kpcc.org in the weeks ahead
