Los Angeles, May 4 - There will be fireworks on Cinco de Mayo at the Baldwin Hills Public Library when 89.3 KPCC reunites three of Southern California’s most creative minds to talk about black-on-black violence. This time, they are joined by Los Angeles Police Chief Bill Bratton.

On Wednesday, May 5th, Talk of the City Host Kitty Felde, Chief Bratton, and a panel of African-American political observers will meet at the Baldwin Hills Public Library at 7 pm to debate possible solutions to the continuing problem of crimes committed by African-Americans against fellow African-Americans. The program will be broadcast on Talk of the City at 2 pm on Thursday, May 6th.

Felde will be joined by Earl Ofari Hutchinson, political analyst, author of The Hutchinson Report and host of KPFK’s Tuesday Live; Joe Hicks, Vice President of Community Advocates, Inc. and former head of the LA City Human Relations Commission; and Erin Aubry Kaplan, staff writer and columnist at the LA Weekly.

The Baldwin Hills Public Library is located at 2906 S. La Brea (south of the 10 freeway.) Admission is free, but seating is limited.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the California Community Foundation. Established in 1915, the California Community Foundation is one of the largest and most active philanthropic organizations in Southern California, with assets of more than $600 million. In partnership with its donors, the foundation supports nonprofit organizations and public institutions with funds for health and human services, affordable housing, early childhood education, community arts and culture and other areas of need.

Talk of the City airs weekdays from 2-3 pm. 89.3 KPCC is the flagship station of Southern California Public Radio. It airs the signature news and talk programs from NPR, along with Talk of the City and AirTalk with Larry Mantle weekdays from 10 am-noon.
