Tuesday, June 27, 2006 (Los Angeles) - On Saturday, June 24th, 89.3 KPCC won 11 awards at the 48th Annual Los Angeles Press Club Journalism Awards Dinner, more than any other radio station in Southern California, commercial or non-commercial. Included in the total were six first place awards, with reporter Frank Stoltze honored as Radio Journalist of the Year. He was also awarded with an honorable mention for his reporting on criminal immigrants. Other 89.3 KPCC reporters honored include:
- Rachel Myrow, with two first place awards for Best Feature Story on businesses that hire illegal aliens, and Best Series for her series on the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
- Ilsa Setziol, with a first place award for Best Use of Sound for her story on the Arroyo Toad.
- Steven Cuevas, with a first place award for Best Sports Reporting for his story on Little League in the Inland Empire.
- Ben Adair, with a first place award for Entertainment Reporting for his story on writer and pornographer Sam Stern.
- John Rabe and Frank Stoltze were recognized with a second place award in Breaking News for their coverage of the Metrolink train crash of January 2005.
The awards ceremony highlighted the strength of 89.3 KPCC's entire news team with KPCC News receiving second place in the Best Series category for its series on illegal immigrants. KPCC reporters also notably swept the Best Feature category with Myrow's first place award, Ben Adair and Ayala Ben-Yehuda taking second place and Stoltze's honorable mention.
