89.3 KPCC to Launch Interactive Web Tool to Introduce Listeners to Candidates

Los Angeles (October 2, 2006) - On October 3rd, 89.3 KPCC-FM will launch an interactive Web feature, "Select A Candidate," as part of the station's Election 2006 online coverage at www.kpcc.org. "Select A Candidate" is a quiz designed to help KPCC's audience get better acquainted with the California gubernatorial candidates and learn more about their positions on key issues.

"Select A Candidate" presents the audience with a short quiz comprised of questions about major election issues. For each multiple-choice quiz question, the user selects the response that most closely matches his or her view on that issue, and ranks the issue's importance.

When the answers are submitted, the quiz generates a numeric score showing how the user's views match up with the six candidates running for California Governor. The user can then follow links to read more on each candidate, and can also view the cumulative responses for everyone who has taken the quiz. Candidate positions are detailed and cited on a separate page for easy reference.

"Select A Candidate" is part of kpcc.org's online coverage for Election 2006, which also includes an archive of campaign stories, voter resources, information on ballot propositions, and a feedback form.

89.3 KPCC-FM is Southern California's most listened to public radio station, featuring the most NPR news, award-winning local news and signature public radio programs. The KPCC newsroom has garnered more awards for journalistic excellence than any other local station public or commercial. Each week a half-million listeners tune-in to KPCC's AirTalk with Larry Mantle, Patt Morrison and Off-Ramp with John Rabe for local news and cultural programming; as well as public radio favorites Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Fresh Air, Marketplace, Car Talk, Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me and A Prairie Home Companion. Listeners from around the globe can tune in to a 24/7 live stream and explore KPCC podcasts, archives and more at kpcc.org.

Southern California Public Radio is the member-supported non-profit organization that operates 89.3 KPCC in Los Angeles and Orange Counties and its repeater station, 89.1 KUOR in the Inland Empire. Bureaus are maintained in Downtown Los Angeles, Orange County, Sacramento, and on the campuses of the University of Redlands and Pasadena City College.
