Silver Lake Walking Man Memorial
July 25, 2010 -- This afternoon my husband and I went to Silver Lake to walk in honor of Dr. Marc Abrams, the man known for strolling shirtless throughout this eastside neighborhood. It was, hands down, one of the best Sunday afternoons I've ever spent in L.A.
We all met up at the Silver Lake Recreation Center. I'm no expert at gauging crowds, but I'd say at least 250 people were there, including City Councilmen Eric Garcetti and Tom LaBonge. A few folks shared their memories of the doctor and then we headed up West Silverlake Blvd. It was quite a sight to behold that many men, women, kids and dogs all walking together to honor someone.
We strode up to Rowena, then headed left on Hyperion down to Griffith Park Blvd. We took Griffith Park to Sunset, pass the Marc Abrams mural and then back up to the Silverlake Reservoir. I bumped into several good friends (Adam, Patrick, Jen, and Vicki - great to see you all!) then capped the whole afternoon off with a very delicious brunch at Millie's.
I can only imagine that if Dr. Abrams were able to look down from on high and see us all, he'd be very, very proud.
