The street that beat the floods

This week's rainfall has been a real test for Elmer Avenue in Sunland. It's a street notorious for flooding. In years past the water could reach up to resident's front steps.

But officials from the Los Angeles San Gabriel Rivers Watershed Council and the conservation group TreePeople set out to change that. They pulled the pluf on Elmer Avenue's drainage problems with an extreme make over of the whole street.

They added drainage under the street, installed rain ditches on the sidewalks and planted water absorbing shrubs around the neighborhood.

According to residents we spoke to on Tuesday the street is finally beating the rain.
