Start slathering on the sunscreen and hydrating now, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is only 86 days away. Each year, polo grounds in the desert become a mecca for music lovers. Rumors swirled around the 2011 show (check out the LA Times gallery of fans' fake posters)...
Well, Goldenvoice released the official line up last night - full list below - and it features some big names. Kanye West, Kings of Leon, and Canadian indie rockers Arcade Fire headline.
Kanye swept critics' best of 2010 lists [album review]. Hip hop is not very well represented at Coachella, but like Jay Z's set last year, West is likely to be a crowd pleaser. He'll have the vast desert canvas to paint with a huge sound and lights show. Another chart-topping pop artist of last year, Cee Lo Green, will undoubtedly play his single F*** You [album review - with the FCC friendly cut Forget You].
Big blast-from-the-past artists who will be there include Duran Duran, Swedish pop singer Robyn, and Fugees alum Lauryn Hill (as Ms. Lauryn Hill) who gave a rare interview to All Things Considered last summer.
In addition to Arcade Fire, Coachella holds on to its indie roots: long time favorites Animal Collective, Conor Oberst aka Bright Eyes, and Broken Social Scene will all perform. Plus, more recent indie acts Tame Impala, Ariel Pink (as Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti), and LA-based Best Coast, and Warpaint [album review].
Finally, The Aquabats anyone?
Will you be there? What are you most excited about? Who was left out of this year's lineup? And which acts should be cut? Let us know in the comments.
