Marijuana dispensary opens 50 feet from OC school

A medical marijuana dispensary has opened in Anaheim about 50 feet from a continuation high school that serves "at-risk" students, the OC Register is reporting.

State law signed by then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger prohibits any dispensary from being closer than 600 feet of a school. The only thing that seperates the Southwest Anaheim campus of the Orange County Department of Education's ACCESS program and the cannabis shop is a small market.

"There are plenty of places that they could put a dispensary, but it doesn't belong right here next to a school,"  Devin Lawson, the principal of the school complained to the Register. Some of the children at the school are battling drug and alcohol issues, officials told the paper.

Although the facade of the dispensary has no sign (other than two images of a drowsy house sporting a smile), the 1877 W. Katella address is listed as "Natural Wellness of California" on a medical marijuana web directory.
