VIDEO: Los Angeles to San Diego by bike

A picture may be worth a thousand words, so what does a video cost? Even temperatures, low humidity, and sunny blue skies make for optimal road conditions while biking in Southern California. Then there’s the scenic mountain and ocean views for our viewing pleasure. And yet, how many of us have experienced a significant journey via bike?

Check out the above video by Schueyjr, who filmed his 144-mile bike journey through three counties from Los Angeles to San Diego. Schueyjr starts in Glendale and journeys through Elysian Park, Chinatown, Long Beach, Sunset Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, the coastline, Dana Point, San Onofre State Beach, Camp Pendleton, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Del Mar, and finally into San Diego.

The whole trip takes him over 8 and a half hours in the saddle “with 4 Cliff Bar, 3 power gels, and 4 bottles of Cytomax.” And one would imagine, a lot of gumption.

Inspired to share your own biking experiences? Recently, the LADOT bike program sent out a call for bicycling photos for their Flickr group, “Bicyclists using bicycle facilities in the City of Los Angeles.” The LADOT bike blog looks to enhance the bike culture of Los Angeles by giving the rest of us a bird’s eye view of the biking experience in the Southland.
