There’s a sticker for that: GM launches auto industry’s first eco-label

The new Chevy Sonic.

With the launch of the 2012 Sonic next month, GM’s Chevy brand will introduce the industry’s first “eco-sticker” that will cite the car’s environmental information. The Ecologic stickers will appear in the rear driver’s side window of the Sonic, and will appear on all Chevy vehicles starting in 2013.

Among the information listed on the sticker will be the carbon footprint created producing the car, engine technologies, sustainable parts and how to recycle to vehicle when it’s ready to go off that car park in the sky.

In the wake of the exceedingly green 2012 North American Auto Show in Detroit earlier this year, it’s a savvy move that positions Chevy squarely at the center of automotive eco-responsibility.

“We know plant by plant, component by component, powertrain by powertrain how these vehicles are made, what the recyclability is,” explained Mike Robinson, Chevrolet’s VP of sustainability and global regulatory affairs. “We provide that information to the customer.”
