Tehachapi wildfire update
Governor Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency in Kern County where two wildfires have destroyed dozens of homes and forced evacuations.
Bull Fire
in the southern end of the Sequoia National Forest
started Monday
15,600 acres (20+ square miles)
5% contained
8 homes and 6 out-buildings destroyed
2 firefighters have received minor injuries
Forced evacuation for a camp for juvenile offenders near Kernville
West Fire
In Tehachapi (some 70 miles north of L.A.) between Bakersfield and Mojave
Reported yesterday 3 p.m.
1,230 Acres (2 square miles)
0% contained
30-40 homes destroyed; 150 homes threatened
About 250 firefighters
Fire crews are fighting the flames by air, crews working on the southeast corner of it were widening bulldozer lines and setting backfires
