All Glendale schools closed Monday

According to Glendale Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Michael F. Escalante, ALL Glendale schools will be closed on Monday.

Because of conditions created by the Station Fire, school has been cancelled for Monday, August 31, 2009. The District, in consultation with police, fire, sheriff, and air-quality experts, will continually evaluate the situation to determine if further cancellations are necessary. As quickly as these determinations are made, the District will post them to this website and through other channels.

Evacuations continue as fire spreads

  • Riverwood Drive in Sunland under mandatory evacuations.
  • Alpine Way in Sunland under mandatory evacuations
  • Little Tujunga Canyon under mandatory evacuation orders.
  • Big Tujunga Canyon between County Fire Department Camp 15 and Big Tujunga Ranger Station is under mandatory evacuations.
  • The Station Fire is moving to the west and that several hundred houses are being ordered to be evacuated in the Montrose section of the City of Glendale.
  • All homes in Glendale north of Santa Carlotta Street, between Pennsylvania and Lowel avenues, are being evacuated.
  • Areas north of Santa Carlotta Street in Glendale between Lowell Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue are under mandatory evacuation orders.
  • Mandatory evacuation areas in northeast La Crescenta, in Briggs Terrace, and northwest La Cañada Flintridge, and the northernmost part of Ocean View Boulevard north of Fairhurst Drive.
  • Mandatory evacuation orders expanded to areas north of Loma Alta Drive. Evacuation orders were also issued for the Meadows neighborhood in the northwestern tip of Altadena, and the Florecita Drive and Crestford Drive neighborhoods.
  • An evacuation center has been set up for people, and small animals, at Jackson Elementatry School, 593 W. Woodbury Dr. in Altadena.
  • About 150 houses in La Crescenta are now being evacuated by the Los Angeles County sheriff's office.
  • The mandatory evacuation order is for the Briggs Terrace area, and covers all homes reached off of Shields Street above Briggs Avenue.
  • Mandatory evacuations, as per instruction from County public safety personnel, the City of La Cañada Flintridge, remain in effect on:
  • Ocean View Blvd. North of Bristow Dr., including Bristow Dr., Derwood Dr., Manistee Dr., and Highrim Rd. generally East of Palm Dr. at Ravista Ln. to Alta Canyada Road
  • Greenridge Dr., Forest Green Dr., Ridge Ct., and Starlight Crest Dr. (through address 502)
  • Residents in these areas are asked to assemble their families and leave the area. An evacuation center is set up at La Cañada High School, located at 4463 Oak Grove Dr., where the Red Cross is ready to receive those coming from the evacuation area. Please heed directions from Sheriff’s deputies and fire personnel to ensure that all residents are able to depart in a safe manner.

Voluntary evacuations in Pasadena

We encountered a problem, and this photo is currently unavailable.

Voluntary evacuation requests have been issued for neighborhoods in the extreme northwest corner of Pasadena. The city is asking residents along Florecita Drive, Florecita Way, Florecita Lane and Florecita Terrace to consider leaving their homes. An evacuation center has been set up for people, and small animals, at Jackson Elementatry School, 593 W. Woodbury Dr. in Altadena.
