Rent Freeze Considered by LA City Council

The Los Angeles City Council has voted 8-6 to instruct the city attorney to draft an ordinance to ban rent increases on rent-controlled housing until Oct. 31. Landlords owning less than five units would be exempt from the ban.

If adopted, the ordinance would be expected to take effect July 1, but more debate and amendments are expected when the draft comes before the council in two weeks.

KPCC's Corey Moore is at City Hall covering the session and will be providing details.
