Missing from the Judiciary Panel this morning is Senator Dianne Feinstein. Actually, about half the Senators are in other Committee meetings this morning. That led Chairman Patrick Leahy to decide that things will be a bit loose. Each Senator will be given half an hour to ask questions, Democrats and Republicans alternating, starting with the most senior members. Of course, since there are more Democrats than Republicans on the Judiciary Committee, it may be every other slot that is alloted to Republican questions.
Judge Sotomayor is wearing a crayon red jacket this morning. And she's describing her experiencees on the bench as a trial judge. "Law is not legal theory," she told the Senators, "it's facts."
