Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa was discussing property rights with Judge Sotomayor when the day's first protester demanded to be heard.
It was a large, beefy gentleman who started yelling anti-abortion sentiments. He seemed frustrated that Roe v Wade wasn't playing a larger role in this hearing. He screamed, "the GOP is done. Republicans defend the babies!"
It took half a dozen police officers to remove him from the room. He didn't go quietly, he kept screaming and officers kept pushing him out.
Senator Grassley didn't miss a beat. He commented, "People always say I have the ability to turn people on."
