Reporters were told to wait in the Rayburn Room - a beautiful reception room with Masterpiece Theatre-worthy armchairs, a fireplace and thick carpets. The media were then escorted into a conference room down the hall where half a dozen GOP House members gathered around a polished table. Each spoke his piece. Reporters had been handed a schedule showing who would speak in what order. And just so things would stay organized, the name of each Congressman was taped to the back of his seat.
