KCET has cut the PBS cord

Like many of you, I grew up watching KCET’s PBS programming and consider it a local institution.  Later, it was a pleasure to do our Film Week segments as part of KCET’s local nightly news program, Life and Times.

With Friday afternoon’s announcement that KCET will drop PBS affiliation and programming, I’m shocked.  KCET President Al Jerome had told us such a drastic move was under consideration by his board and management.  Nonetheless, I didn’t think the impasse with PBS would lead to dropped affiliation.

KCET’s programming plans apparently include foreign productions and classic films, but it’s hard to imagine many viewers will tune in that.
