Photographer Steve Saldivar came across Humberto Renteria (right, holding Mexican flag) from Torrance and a friend last August on Whittier Boulevard in East L.A.

The two were attending a procession in memory of journalist Ruben Salazar and others killed there in 1970, during the Chicano Moratorium demonstration protesting the Vietnam War.
