Multi-American | How immigrants are redefining 'American' in Southern California

American snapshot: Chinatown

Calvin Ho

In downtown L.A.'s old Chinatown, across the river from the mostly Latino historic Boyle Heights neighborhood, it's not that unusual to see otherwise Chinese-style bakeries advertising Latin American baked goods. I posted a photo of a bilingual bakery on Cesar Chavez Boulevard last year, but this entry from blogger Calvin Ho of The Plaid Bag Connection is prettier.

Ho has created Migrantography, a nifty Instagram photo site with images related to immigrant life. He writes: "Of course a Sino-Vietnamese bakery in Chinatown would sell tres leches cake."

Of course.
