Labor Day could be an afternoon of loafing around the house with the windows open, the feet up, and the Netflix streaming. Or you could go outside.
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is free today, thanks to a sponsorship from Target. Visiting the giant boulder, "Levitated Mass" is always free, but if you haven't seen the giant rock yet, today may be a good day to find meaning in 2012's most talked-about local sculpture.
Not into being in a museum? Labor Day marks the last really crowded day at Venice Beach. Some avoid crowds, but the people-watching at L.A.'s second-largest tourist attraction (Disneyland is still #1) has no peer. Surfers, stoners, slackers, seniors, students, locals and tourists all cross paths here.
If you do get close to the water, however, be aware there is a rip current warning along the coast today. Watch the waves, but you might not want to mess with them.
Another interesting place to people watch is on Hollywood Blvd. Nobody is as fascinated by the performers who pose for photos with tourists at Hollywood & Highland more than blog LA I'm Yours. Their coverage makes it almost tempting to go down there and see the spectacle in person. Almost.
