The Empire strikes back at White House decision not to build Death Star

Lucasfilm/Disney

The Death Star, a planet-sized gun built by Darth Vader and the Empire in George Lucas's "Star Wars."

The White House made news recently by responding to — and rejecting — the idea of building a Death Star (while also promoting the space program and science education). Now, the Empire has struck back.

In a post on the official Star Wars blog, issued in the form of a press release from “Galactic Empire Public Relations,” the Empire declared victory with the headline, “Planet Earth Abandons Death Star Project In Face Of Superior Galactic Imperial Power.”

The Empire labeled the decision by Earth not to build a Death Star as “cowardice,” as well as asserting that the cost estimate used by the White House of $850 quadrillion was “ridiculously overestimated.”

They also denied claims made in the White House response that there was a fatal flaw in the Death Star’s design.
