Los Angeles comedian Barrett Shuler as a young, Disney-loving Bob Dylan.
A new YouTube video, “Dylan Does Disney,” offers allegedly lost footage of Bob Dylan singing Disney movie songs and giving tortured artistic responses to questions from the interviewer.
The parody video gives you a young Disney-loving Dylan, set on Oct. 14, 1965, singing songs Disney didn’t do until the ’90s. That may leave you with some trouble fitting it in to your Disney historical fan fic. Or perhaps it opens up whole new worlds. (Pun fully intended.)
Playing Dylan in the video is Los Angeles actor Barrett Shuler.
"People sometimes told me I look liked Dylan. I did a decent Dylan impression. One day I just started singing 'Part of Your World' as Dylan and the idea kind of just came out," Shuler says.
Songs delivered by faux Dylan include “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas, “A Whole New World” from Aladdin and “Part of Your World” from the Little Mermaid. There’s one more at the end that I’ll leave for you to discover on your own.
"I loved Disney as a kid and I love Dylan, and together it's a weird, weird, beautiful marriage," Shuler says.
Shuler says he drew inspiration from this compilation of Dylan interviews. "We took some ideas from there and some dialogue to make it seems more authentic."
