The Pet Shop Boys have a new album out called “Elysium.” It’s their eleventh studio album and has an interesting Los Angeles connection.
First off, if you don’t know the Pet Shop Boys, what’s wrong with you? OK, OK, that’s a bit much, but you’re missing out. The Pet Shop Boys rose to prominence in the 1980s with their first single, the hit song “West End Girls,” which went to number 1 both in their native United Kingdom as well as here in the States.
You might have also seen them again recently: they just performed in the closing ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics, a sign of just how great their impact on the English pop music scene has been.
So what’s that L.A. connection? The Pet Shop Boys had originally considered calling their album “HappySad,” coming from a way they’d described their music before, which they felt was particularly fitting for this album. Instead, they found their new album title in the City of Angels.
