Founded in 2002 by two dudes in Kentucky, Lebowski Fest welcomes all Walters, Maudes, Dudes and a bounty of other characters to bowl, drink white russians and relax, man.

How ya gonna keep 'em down on the farm once they've seen a story about the The Big Lebowski 2?

The Examiner was verrry undude-like on Thurday when it published, sans sources, a "news item" about a Washington DC-based sequel to the Coen brothers' NSFW cult masterpiece, claiming Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Bill Murray, Jesse Eisenberg, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Julianne Moore were attached to the fantasy project (Tara Reid was only a "possibly").

CBS LA and others picked up the report and excitedly repurposed it without verifcation. Lebowski Fest, LAist and LA Weekly were quick to call shenanigans, pointing out the smell of fan fiction and the lack of ins and outs and what-have-yous from the Examiner story. Note: this is not the first time CBS has pulled for a followup to the film.

KPCC wondered if the Dude minds all the commotion, but emails were not immediately returned. We'll have people working in shifts until we hear back.
