Actress Katie Holmes and actor Tom Cruise arrive at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party hosted by Graydon Carter at Sunset Tower on February 26, 2012 in West Hollywood, California.
The dream is always the same. One day you're in love and jumping on Oprah's couch, and the next your wife of five years hires an attorney. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are headed for divorce, People magazine first reported on Friday.
From Cruise-crush to Cruise-husband, Holmes has been the fashionable focus of tabloid gossip since the now 33-year-old Dawson's Creek alum married, with the help of a Church of Scientology minister, the maverick superstar in 2006.
"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family...Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest," said Holmes's attorney Jonathan Wolfe, speaking about Suri, the couple's magically bored 6-year-old.
Cruise's lawyer Bert Fields said that Holmes filed for divorce on Thursday.
