A wild pursuit ended in gunfire on the 101 Freeway, with police shooting and killing the suspect who was fleeing while pointing something at officers.
Video broadcast on KCAL TV showed the driver driving erratically on the southbound 101 shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday.
The driver crossed several lanes, made a left turn heading in the opposite direction and was then slowed down before being rammed by a police car.
The driver jumped out of the car and began running on the freeway, pointing something at officers. Shots were fired and the suspect fell to the ground.
Los Angeles police Officer Karen Rayner says he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The chase lasted less than 10 minutes, according to NBC Los Angeles.
The freeway was expected to remain closed in both directions for several hours while police investigate.
