Honda seeks appeal in LA, wants to overturn hybrid lawsuit award

An appeal is being heard Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court as lawyers for the American Honda Motor Company seek to reverse a highly publicized small-claims award from earlier this year.
Honda lost in court to Civic hybrid owner Heather Peters in February when the MPG-maven was awarded $9,867 for the car company's failure to deliver on stated claims about mileage.
Peters, who opted out of a class action settlement, sued the automaker when she did not receive the fuel economy promised with her 2006 vehicle.
A service manager for Honda testified to achieving up to 55 mpg in a 115-mile test drive. A separate analyst testified that she was unable to duplicate the promised 50 mpg.
