A family tragedy was averted in Artesia this morning after a car thief took off in a stolen vehicle -- with the family’s 3-year-old child still inside.
The child was returned a few minutes later, after the thief realized what was in the backseat of the 1983 silver Honda Accord he had just boosted.
L.A. County sheriffs told the Long Beach Press-Telegram that the incident occurred at about 6:15 a.m. today on the 18000 block of Elaine Avenue in Artesia.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they were told that a crying child was seen standing on a curbside nearby. She turned out to be the stolen child, dropped off not far away at South and 186th streets near Cerritos College, CBS reports.
Deputies reunited the child with her family soon after. The silver Honda remains missing.
