A man died Friday night after being shot while driving and, shortly afterward, crashing his car into a Westchester building.
ABC7 reports that the shooting occurred at about 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of South La Tijera and South La Cienega boulevards.
Police went to the scene to respond to the crash but then soon discovered that he had been shot in the back.
The man was declared dead at a nearby hospital.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are still unclear, and the man's name is being withheld pending notification of his family.
KTLA reports that, upon arriving at the scene, officers learned that a passenger had fled shortly after the crash and before the police arrived.
Over the past six months, according to the L.A. Times' Mapping L.A. project, Westchester has seen 63 violent crimes, including 19 incidents of aggravated assault. Three of those 19 cases occurred during the week of April 19 to April 25.
