The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department is investigating two deputy-involved shootings over the weekend, one of them fatal.

The fatal shooting occurred Saturday in City of Industry following an armed carjacking in La Puente, authorities said.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, deputies were alerted that a man carjacked a white Dodge Charger at gunpoint at about 1:30 p.m. The Charger was spotted soon after, and deputies pursued it a short way before pulling the vehicle over on the 15000 block of Stafford Street -- right next to the Industry Sheriff’s Station.

They say the carjacker got out of the Charger and fired on deputies, who returned fire, striking the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said a semiautomatic weapon was recovered following the shooting. No deputy was harmed, although a patrol car was struck by bullets.

Authorities have not yet identified the slain suspect in the case. They said separate investigations will be conducted by the Sheriff’s Department, the L.A. District Attorney’s Office and the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review.

Another deputy-involved shooting occurred the next day in Compton following a traffic stop. ABC reports: “It remains unclear why the deputy opened fire on Oleander Avenue and Glencoe Street at about 9 p.m. The suspect was hospitalized in unknown condition.”

A second suspect was arrested. No deputy was hurt in that incident either.
