Today is Wednesday, June 27, and here is what's happening in Los Angeles:

The man running the Los Angeles County Assessor's Office in John Noguez's absence is cleaning house and reassignment two of the assessor's top guys, reports the LA Weekly.

The city's Planning and Land Use Management Committee has backed the expansion of a synagogue in Sherman Oaks, according to the Daily News. Opponents believe the building will be too large for that particular stretch of Chandler Boulevard, but the project is support by the area's councilman, Paul Koretz.

Vernon is becoming less business-friendly due to higher taxes and a 40 percent jump in electricity rates, according to the Los Angeles Times. Business owners who just a year ago stood up for Vernon against state legislation to disincorporate the city feel betrayed. "(Assembly Speaker) John Pérez has to be laughing. In retrospect, I think he was right. I think the city is poorly run.... I think we made a big mistake," said the head of the local printing company.
