Photos: Norwalk stovetop fire reveals $6 million marijuana stash
A smoking stovetop led to a $6 million marijuana seizure Thursday evening.
The Norwalk Sheriff's Station and the L.A. County Fire Department responded to a fire call on the 12000 block of Chesire Street, where smoke was coming out of the windows of a condominium.
Personnel entered to locate possible victims, and discovered the source of the smoke was burning food. Deputies noticed large packages of marijuana stacked in various other rooms and obtained a search warrant to confiscate the drugs, estimated to be worth over $6 million.
No one was in the condominium at the time of the fire, where over 2,000 pounds of marijuana was seized. Detectives have found no suspects but are investigating the property owners.
