A grass fire that sparked in a rural area of Riverside County just a couple of hours ago has grown to more than 200 acres and is beginning to move toward nearby houses.
The fire was first reported around 11:30 a.m. in the unincorporated area of La Cresta, which is west of Murrieta and north of Temecula.
The Riverside County Fire Department earlier said no injuries had been reported.
Almost 200 firefighters, four helicopters, six air tankers and 25 fire engines are on scene.
As of 1:30 p.m., the fire was 5 percent contained.
Officials from the Murrita Fire Department have said that voluntary and mandatory evacuations have begun to take place in the area, and that a temporary Red Cross Center has been set up at Murrieta Valley High School. At least one structure has reportedly been lost.
