Authorities say a big rig crashed into the center divider on a freeway northwest of Los Angeles, forcing motorists to sit in traffic under triple-digit temperatures.
California Highway Patrol Officer Tatiana Sauquillo says the truck driver was going eastbound on U.S. 101 near Calabasas around 2:30 p.m. when he lost control, smashed the concrete median and came to a stop. The cab blocked two westbound lanes and the trailer blocked three eastbound lanes.
The crash caused traffic to back up for miles.
Sauquillo said a motorist fell ill and called 911, but she didn't know whether the heat was a factor in the medical emergency.
