A suspicious package found in a parking structure elevator at LAX has caused traffic into and out of the airport to grind to a halt.

Cars are stacked bumper to bumper in the lower portion of LAX's drop off zone, where many are attempting to pick up relatives who've just arrived. The Departures gates are open but are still moving "very, very slowly," reports KCAL.

Airport police Sgt. Belinda Nettles says the package was discovered at about 2:10 p.m. Tuesday, but she has no further information.

A command post is being set up between Terminals 1 and 2 as LAPD calls in representatives from various other agencies to assess the possible threat.
