CHP and CalTrans are reporting that an accident between a big rig and sedan may have resulted in a fuel spill on the Northbound I-405. The accident occured near the 101 connector, and has caused a near total shut down of the notoriously busy freeway.

All but the carpool lane of the northbound 405 freeway has been shut down, according to SigAlert.com. The accident, occuring at the height of rush hour, has traffic mostly stopped from Howard Huges Parkway to San Fernando Valley.

Southbound 405 lanes are slow in pockets from Sunset to the 90 freeway.

Update: 10:50 pm: All lanes are now open.
