Aveson Charter School located at 1919 Pinecrest Drive in Altadena was put on security alert because of a bear.

A local school was put on security alert Thursday afternoon in Altadena when a bear was spotted on the north side of campus.

The typical Aveson Charter School day ends at 3:00 p.m., said Denise Lopez, an office manager at the school, who explained that the children were being dismissed on time, but from the south side of campus.

Sheriff Department officials alerted the school of the interloping caniform around 2:15 p.m., according to Lopez, who said the clawed critter was seen on the north side of campus, north of Skyview Drive.

Lopez, who said the school was flooded with calls from worried parents, did not know what type of bear was there.

The Glendale Bear has been oddly silent on Twitter regarding this matter.

Update 4:20 p.m.:
