Suspect leads deputies on pursuit before barricading himself inside a Hawthorne apartment.

Murder and felony evading charges stemming from an LASD pursuit last week were filed Tuesday against Juan Diego Valencia, an alleged gang member.

Valencia, 30, is suspected of shooting Selene Mayoral to death last week, and shoving her body from a car at a Lynwood intersection while leading sheriff's deputies on a chase.

The L.A. Times reports that Mayoral, 24, was shot once in the head and died at the scene.

His arraignment is expected this afternoon in Compton Superior Court.

The dramatic incident began Thursday around 11:15 p.m. when a deputy attempted to stop the suspect in a green Mercury Cougar for vehicle code violations.

The vehicle pulled over near the 4100 block of Alma Avenue. A gunshot was heard, and the deputy observed a flash from inside the car. The suspect then sped away at a high rate of speed, according to a LASD news release.

Valencia was arrested about 1:50 a.m. on Friday after barricading himself inside a Hawthorn apartment complex. A firearm was recovered.
