The drug-sniffing dogs of Sierra Blanca have added Largo-darling Fiona Apple to their Willie Nelson / Snoop Dogg hall of fame after detecting marijuana in her tour bus. The singer-songwriter was arrested Wednesday for alleged hashish possession at the infamous Border Patrol checkpoint in West Texas.
Sierra Blanca Sheriff's office spokesman Rusty Flemming told the Associate Press the artist spent Wednesday night at the Hudspeth County jail for "a little tiny amount of pot and hash," and was released Thursday on $10,000 bond. Fleming says marijuana possession in small amounts is a misdemeanor, while hashish in any quantity is a felony in the state.
Apple's publicist Ambrosia Healy did not immediately respond to the AP's request for comment. "My guess is that there won't be any sort of statement given," Healy told SPIN, however.
MTV noted in their report that a series of recent, in-depth interviews with the artist ran last summer, including a lengthy New York Magazine profile in which "Apple didn't shy away from discussing drug use."
