Officer Sarah Faden says a weapon was recovered near the shooting scene outside a Halloween party but investigators will have to test it to determine if it was the one used in the attack.

Students were told to shelter in place after a campus-wide alert was issued minutes after the 11:30 p.m. shooting Wednesday. It was lifted three hours later and students attended classes as scheduled Thursday.

USC President Max Nikias said in a statement published online Thursday that university safety officials are reviewing campus policies regarding visitors following the on campus shooting.

Three of the injured have been released from the hospital. The L.A. Times reports that the victim that remains hospitalized is Geno Hall, a former Crenshaw High School football athlete.
