KPCC

Detectives are investigating the circumstances that led a Los Angeles County deputy to shoot and kill a man during a Compton street fight.

Investigators say the deputy had stopped a 35-year-old pedestrian Wednesday evening and he suddenly ran away. There was a brief foot chase before the suspect began fighting with the deputy and tried to grab the deputy's weapon.

The suspect, whose name is being withheld, was shot and he died at the scene.

The deputy has minor injuries. The Sheriff's Department has not disclosed any more details, including the reason for the initial stop
