In honor of what would have been Elvis Presley's 78th birthday, KPCC compiled a list of L.A. spots once graced by the presence of The King’s swinging pelvis.

Presley's birthday, Jan. 8, is celebrated Tuesday with the 27th annual Elvis Birthday Bash tribute show at the Echo benefiting the L.A. Mission Charity. Scare up a Chocolate, Peanut Butter And Banana Ale for the occasion, and put on the remastered, rereleased double-CD Aloha From Hawaii concert album – the record responsible for putting Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon back into the shadow of Billboard's top slot when it first dropped in 1973.

  • Elvis Presley in Los Angeles: 10 swingin' locations

RADIO RECORDERS | 7000 Santa Monica Boulevard, Hollywood, CA 90038 | The famed Hollywood studio where Elvis recorded a number of his biggest hits including “Love me Tender” and “Jailhouse Rock.” Last year, the studio’s location – now under a different name – caught fire

DE NEVE SQUARE PARK | Intersection of Mapleton Drive and Saint Pierre Road, Holmby Hills, CA | Elvis got all shook up at this pocket park in Holmby Hills, where he used to play touch football in the 50s and 60s.

CANTER’S DELI | 419 North Fairfax Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90036 | The King couldn’t help falling in love with Canter’s bagels and lox, as he frequented this Fairfax deli on his L.A. visits. Elvis wasn’t the only one; Canter’s has had a long list of celebrity guests over its decades-long run, from Guns N' Roses to Larry David to Elizabeth Taylor.

FORMOSA CAFÉ | 7156 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA 90046 | Rubbing elbows with the famous and the beautiful, Elvis – like many other stars of Hollywood history – frequented this restaurant.

THE KNICKERBOCKER HOTEL | 1714 Ivar Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90028 | Before it became the allegedly haunted apartment complex it is today, this Hollywood hotel was a revolving door of A-list movie stars. Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio used to rendevous at the hotel bar, and Elvis shacked up here while shooting his first film, “Love me Tender.”

NBC STUDIOS | Intersection of Sunset Blvd. and Vine Street, Los Angeles, CA 90028 | On June 5, 1956, Elvis revisited the Milton Berle Show, but this time with a twist (so to speak). The King sang a live rendition of “Hound Dog” while debuting, in wide-shot, his controversial gyrations, a thrusting, swiveling, dancing pants party that many deemed too sexual.

EASTWEST STUDIOS | 6000 West Sunset Boulevard Hollywood, CA 90028 | Once known as Western Recorders, Elvis hit this still-standing Hollywood studio to rehearse and record for his famous '68 Comeback Special. The legendary Christmas TV Special was the start of a career resurgence after a post-Army slump.

BEVERLY HILLS HOME | 1174 Hillcrest Rd. Beverly Hills, CA 90210 | Built in 1958, Elvis and his wife Priscilla once lived in this four-bedroom home on 1.2 acres of Beverly Hills land. The couple bought the manor in 1967 and sold it in the mid '70s. The Presley estate reportedly includes a pool, spa, and floor-to-ceiling windows. It went on sale last year for about $13 million.

PAN PACIFIC AUDITORIUM | 7600 West Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036 | Elvis sang and danced at this 6,000-seat Fairfax auditorium in 1957 shortly before he shipped out on Army duty. His performance here elicited a new wave of shock and outrage and further publicized what would become his signature pelvis shake.

THE PRESLEY ESTATE | 845 West Chino Canyon Road, Palm Springs, CA 92262 | This 5,1000-square-foot mansion in Palm Springs was built by the Presleys in 1970 and has been called “Graceland West.” Occasionally open for public tours, the estate is now maintained and operated by the Fontana family. In 2010, the late, great Huell Howser visited Elvis’ estate for an episode of California’s Gold.
