NBC LA
A big rig is towed from the scene of a fatal crash on the westbound 60 Freeway. Traffic is backed up for miles.
UPDATE: 7:42 a.m.: All of the westbound lanes of the 60 Freeway are now open, but traffic remains slow through the area.
PREVIOUSLY: One person was killed early Thursday in a crash that led to the closure of the westbound 60 Freeway.
The road has been closed near Garfield Avenue in Montebello since the crash at 2:50 a.m., according to NBC LA. The California Highway Patrol has opened one westbound lane.
The driver, a man in his 30s, died when he crashed into the back of a big rig. His vehicle was then rear-ended by another big rig, the Associated Press reported.
All westbound lanes are closed. Traffic is being diverted onto Pomona Boulevard from the Garfield Avenue/Wilcox Avenue exit.
"We are asking motorists to take alternate routes if they're traveling in from the Inland Empire," said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Bill Preciado.
