Six employees of the Orange County Probation Department have been fired and seven more suspended for security lapses after an investigation launched when two teens inmates were caught having sex in juvenile hall.

Executive Director Steven Connolly of the Office of Independent Review told the Orange County Register on Thursday that the nearly yearlong investigation first focused on one section but then expanded to the entire high-security ward.

Investigators found that corrections officers skipped regular security checks and left inaccurate log entries. A complete report on the investigation is expected Friday.

The teenage boy and girl found having sex had been left unsupervised in a dormitory for hours last February. They were both charged with violent crimes and were later convicted.
